Information about the competition “Lessons of Holocaust – a way to tolerance”

The Russian Research and Educational Centre “Holocaust” undertakes the organization of the contest with a broad notification about it among people in CIS; the examination of the works; the organization of the awarding ceremony for about 30 winners of the contest in one of the most prestigious halls of Moscow; the coverage of the results of the contest in print media as well as in info programs of Russian TV-Stations. Besides the works of Russian and foreign students the Jury will take into consideration the 3 best works of the winners of analogous contests, which will be organized by the Ukrainian Holocaust Center and the Holocaust Foundation of Belarus. As a result of the project a collection of the 20 best students works with a print run of 1500 will be published.

The project will is an important stimulus for the writing of students’ works and of course broadens the number of participators and enhances the quality of the works. The contest winners’ possibility to meet at the International conference with their European colleagues attracts the public to the theme of Holocaust and tolerance and for sure increases the Prestige of the whole project. The authors of the best works receive the possibility to express their ideas to build tolerance among same aged people by relying on the experience of studying and teaching the history of the Holocaust in different European countries. The publishing of the collection of the best students’ researches and their distribution to the biggest university libraries of Russian and the CIS will not only have a scientific meaning but calls for public resonance. The realization of the project attracts the attention of a broad public to problems of tolerance in Russia.

V International contest of works
On the Holocaust: Prize – awarding ceremony

The contest of works created by students and teachers was first announced in Russia in 1999. Two years later, it became an international contest and a total of 3,500 works have been submitted to it. entitled "Kitty. The Legacy of an man of the SPS Party; Ekaterina On January 27, in Moscow, at the Central House of Writers, the winners of the V International Contest of Works on the Holocaust received their awards at a specially organized ceremony. Over 500 works from 10 countries were submitted for the contest: Belarus, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kirgiziya, Moldova, Russia, USA, Ukraine, and Estonia. Russia was traditionally represented by the greatest number of works – from over 42 regions of the country, 63 populated centers and 30 colleges and universities. More...

On January 27th 2005, the anniversary day of the liberation of concentration camp Auschwitz, took place a memorial evening for the victims of the Holocaust. Alla Gerber, president of the Russian Holocaust Foundation lead through the evening at the central house of literary men, where participants and winners of the second international writing competition “Holocaust – memory and prevention” were awarded for their outstanding works and engagement in this contest.

More than 700 written works were handed in and students and scholars from more than 66 places from 6 countries (Russia, the Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, Poland and the USA) joined the project.
The Russian Federation presented works from 49 towns from all over the country. In this year 23 students coming from 4 countries were awarded as winners. Karina Kaljagina from Kazan took the first place in the students ranking, Svetlana Gorbacheva from Kaliningrad in the ranking for teachers and Irina Petrova from Arkhangelsk district won first place among the pupils. A special award for their educational work on Jewish heroism was given to the educators of the kindergarten in Kytmanushka/Altai region. Several ambassadors, attaches and decorated persons were present at the evening and a well known Chassidic choir under direction of Aleksandr Tsialuk formed the background of the ceremony, that was organized by the RHF and the Federation of Jewish communities in Russia. The end of the evening formed the documentary film(1945) about the Liberation of Aushwth by Red army, where one could see.

Contests and Schoolchildren's Conferences

Russian and international contests are held for teachers, schoolchildren and students on the subject of the Holocaust. Winners receive valuable gifts and have the opportunity to visit Holocaust memorials and museums abroad.

Winners in Paris
Each year, international conferences for schoolchildren are held at the Brest Fortress at exactly 4 o'clock on June 22. The young people meet with former ghetto prisoners, and the Righteous Among the Nations and take part in restoring burial grounds. Reports by conference participants and winners of contests are included in the publications of the Foundation and in the educational press.
