Publishing Program

Some 30 books have been published in the Russian Library of the Holocaust series. The series was launched with a monograph by Mikhail Gefter, Holocaust Echo and the Russian Jewish Issue. Publications include such textbooks as: History of the Holocaust within the USSR; History of the Holocaust - 1933-1945; Holocaust - Resistance - Renaissance; books on the history of the Lvov Jews, denial of the Holocaust, memoirs of former ghetto prisoners and Resistance members, and materials from international conferences (in Russian and English). Memoirs of General Vasily Petrenko who liberated Auschwitz were reprinted in France. A textbook for schoolchildren was published in Austria in German. The scientific and information bulletin Holocaust is published on a quarterly basis (also in English).

We cannot be silent: Schoolboys and students about the Holocaust.

The collection of works of winners and participiants of the third International competition of works about the Holocaust includes researches, essays and paintings of schoolboys and students from 10 regions of Russia, and also from the Ukraine and Estonia. Many works They are the result of interviews with victims of the Holocaust and the Rigtheous among of Nations, of research in archives and of careful studying the literature. The book is addressed to schoolboys, students, teachers of schools and high schools.

The offered support is the first in the new series of " the Russian library of the Holocaust as a help for teachers. The book is dated on the 65 anniversary of the largest mass execution of peace inhabitants within the second world war. It is calculated for teachers, active workers of youth civil organizations, schoolboys, students and everyone to whom it is important that the dark past wont find a way to the future.

In the first book of the multivolume edition Babiy Yar: Human being, authority and history articles, that are written on a level of analysis and synthesis of documental sources, which are used for the first time, are published. They devote to the problems to localize execution places and burial-places from the time of the German occupation (1941-1943) and to the history of the building and the settlement of the occupied territory. For the first time the text documents and the cartographical photo documents are arranged chronologically and by topic. The edition is supplied by a scientific glossary. It is a book for historians, politicians, regional specialists, teachers and high school students and for everybody who is interested in the history of the Second World War, the Holocaust, the Ukraine and the city Kiev.



Do i posle Oswiencima (Before and after Auschwitz)

The author, General Vasilij Petrenko, writes in this book about the liberation of Auschwitz at the beginning of 1945. General Petrenko was one of the liberators of the concentration camp in Auschwitz. He writes about his impressions and feelings when arriving in the concentration camp but as well as about his work for more tolerance after the war. Unfortunately not many people in Russia know about the crimes of Nazis, especially about the extermination of Jewish people. This book certainly helps many people to think about the cruelties of the Second World War and misanthropical nature of any totalitarian regime.



Russian Jews on Three Continents Migration and Resettlement

Their presence in Israel, Europe and North America and their absence from Russia have left an indelible imprint on these societies. Mi ne mogem molchat' - deti o Kholokoste
We can not keep silent children about Holocaust

This digest is a summary of works by all participants of the International competition of the Fond Holocaust under the motto: Holocaust: Memory and Prevention. Beginning from 2000 the Fond Holocaust organized all in all 4 International competitions. To the pleasure of everybody the number of works for competition is rising every year. Until now the Fond Holocaust received about 3000 research papers about the history of Holocaust, numerous reflections about the cruel genocide and its consequences. The current digest includes 16 works by students and 15 paintings that show us how children memory about Holocaust. What are they thinking about the tragedy mass extermination of people? How do they connect this event of the 20th century with our contemporary time? What doe s it mean in our time and in our situation to be tolerant towards people of other nationalities? Why is it today necessary to keep memory about Holocaust? Works to this topic came from all parts of Russia: from Arkhangelsk to Vladivostok. Furthermore in this digest the most expressive paintings to the topic Holocaust are published. The book remembers about Holocaust, fights against Xenophobia, Ethnophobia and Nationalism in our time...

Destiny and Life of a boy from the destroyed ghetto

The memories of Semyon Davidovich Dodik are a narration of the tragedy of the Soviet Jews during the time of the Great Patriotic War on the occupied areas of the Ukraine. The book is an attempt to preserve memory of the victims of Holocaust. The book tells about a boy from the ghetto, which had the destiny, not as many others, to survive. Nevertheless he was often only one step away from death. His destiny, that left him alone without family also gave him the possibility to revenge on the enemy when fighting for the partisans. Furthermore these books shows us how this boy with his stubborn and determined nature was able to finish the university, become a professor, write several books, fulfill his dreams from his childhood and finally raise his own children. All the time the small boy is disturbed by one thought he is alive and his colleagues from school are dead.and many of them have been more intelligent that he is!! How many books would they have written, when they would be alive? How would their children and grandchildren be, when they would be still alive? For the remembrance of his school colleagues, for the remembrance what and who they would be today, for them and thousands and millions killed Jewish children the author is writing this about his life after the ghetto. Holocaust Denial. History and Contemporary Tendencies

This book deals with one of the trends of contemporary extreme-right ideologies, the adherents of which rank themselves among historical revisionists. They actively propagate the revision of the history of World War II and deny the Nazi policy of annihilation of Jews. The attention of the readers is drawn to the growth of Holocaust denial in the contemporary world and the specific aspects of this process in Russia.

(The Unknown Blackbook).

This book contains documents (eyewitnesses' testimonies), which the authors of the Black Book intended to include, but which could not be published in the USSR. This, until now, unedited documentation of Nazi crimes on the territory of the former Soviet Union gives not only supplementary information on German war crimes, but also on Soviet Communist policy dealing with World War II.

Altman I. Victims of Hate - The Holocaust in the USSR 1941-1945.

This book is the first comprehensive exploration of the history of the Holocaust and Jewish resistance in the occupied territories of the USSR. Based on documents from 27 Russian and foreign archives, the author examines the history of the Holocaust as an all-embracing genocide of Soviet Jews in the context of WWII history. Particular attention is devoted to anti-Semitic propaganda, statistics relating to the ghettos and victims of the Holocaust, the confiscation of Jewish property, the daily life of prisoners and also to the attitude of soviet leadership and society to the genocide of the Jews. Living and Fighting in the Bialystok Ghetto. Notes of a participant of the Resistence Movement)

This book presents memories of a prisoner and underground fighter of the Bialystok ghetto (1941-1943), who was an agent of the Jewish partisan unit "Foroys" and of the partisan unit "K. Kalinovskiy". The auther lays down testimony and documentational material concerning the ghetto uprising, which was the biggest anti-nazi rebellion on the territory of the USSR. The insurrection was brutally brought down by the German troops, the police and their accomplices.

Levin R. Mal'chik iz Getto. (A Boy of the Ghetto).

Memories and poems of R. Levin, who is one of the few survivors of the Brest Ghetto. On this famous poet from Kharkiv and on his extraordinary destiny also wrote S.S. Smirnov. Its mostly addressed to pupils and students dealing with the Holocaust.

Sverdlov F. Neizvestnoye o sovetskikh polkovodtsakh. (The Unknown Soviet Generals).

The author tells stories and facts about Soviet generals and high commanders during the war and their biography in the post-war period. Consisting on personal experiences the author also used materials of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense.

Tamarkin V. Eto bylo ne vo sne. (This was no dream)

This is a chronic of living and dying in Lyady, a village in the Russian-Belorussian border region. The village was razed to the ground and thousands of its Jewish civilians were shot at the nearby dykes. (The village is known for the famous Hassidic Lubavich dynasty's founder Shneer-Zalman Shneerson living there until 1812.) The author is a former prisoner of the Lyady ghetto and knows the atrocities of the Nazi occupation very well. He succeeded in escaping and at the age of 12 took up the fight against the enemy.

Ten' Kholokosta.(The Shadow of the Holocaust)

Speeches and articles by symposium participants from 11 countries; historians, pedagogues, philosophers, human rights advocates, former inmates of nazi concentration camps, devoted to little-researched questions on the history of the Holocaust on the territory of the USSR, to new archival documents and eyewitness testimony and the problems of pedagogy. The primary focus is on the analysis of the interrelationships between the methods and the goals of Nazi propaganda in the press during World War II and in contemporary nationalist publications of Eastern European countries.

Wiesenthal. S. Podsolnukh. (The Sunflower).

An autobiographical story of a camp prisoner who meets a dying SS officer. The latter asks Wiesenthal to forgive his mass murder. Wiesenthal refused to forgive the SS officer on behalf of the murdered Jews. The author asks the reader of the book how he\she would have reacted in this situation.

Anatomy of Holocaust. The very Beginning. Germany 1933-1939.

This book deals with unique archive documents concerning the first years of Nazi dictatorship in Germany. The portraits of leading persons within the SS, SA, Gestapo a.o., should demonstrate the inhumanity of Nazism. It deals with Nazi "race theories", who were the base of the future extinction of German and European Jewry. The book deals only with the beginning of these developments, when anti-Semitism gained more and more influence in German society.
